LYNN — The MBTA will suspend service for the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail from April 20 through April 28, meaning the city’s Commuter Rail station will be closed during this time.
Additionally, Blue Line service between the Airport and Wonderland stops will also be suspended for the same duration.
For those nine days, the MBTA will offer shuttle buses as an alternative travel option. The shuttles replacing Commuter Rail service will travel between the Swampscott and North Station stops, and those replacing Blue Line service will travel between Swampscott and North Station.
The MBTA’s website said that the Commuter Rail suspension will allow for “signal improvement work,” while the Blue Line suspension will allow for “track work.”
As the MBTA’s ferry service between Blossom Street Pier and Boston’s Long Wharf will not resume until April 29, buses will be the only source of public transportation for the full duration of the week.
According to the MBTA’s website, a diversion schedule will be in effect during this time.
The website added that the shuttle buses will be free, but passengers are still expected to “purchase regular fares for travel between Swampscott and their station of origin/destination.”
Paula Devereaux, a resident of Nahant, wrote in an email that the suspensions will significantly impact commuters in communities throughout the area.
She added that when she took the Blue Line this week for her commute, there were no notices. There were also no notices posted at the Lynn interim station, which will be completely shut down for the nine days.
“Why couldn’t the T wait a week until the Lynn ferry starts up again?” Devereaux said.
Anyone with questions or concerns regarding the schedule should visit the MBTA’s website at https://www.mbta.com/schedules/CR-Newburyport/alerts .
