ROUNDUP: Lynnfield laxmen escape Manchester-Essex
press-releases

All-around. Versatile. Explosive. Whatever you want to call it, the Lynnfield laxmen put on a show Tuesday evening in a 15-12 win against Manchester-Essex.

The visiting Pioneers were led by Will Norton, who scored seven goals. He was one of five goal-scorers.

“It was a massive day for attackman Will Norton and the whole defense, rallying to hold off a very talented Manchester-Essex offense in the fourth quarter,” said Lynnfield coach Pat Lamusta.

Other offensive contributors included John Powers (2 goals), Evan Rocha (2 assists), Kelan Cardinal (2 goals, 5 assists), Mike Murphy (3 goals, assist), Owen Doherty (goal, assist), AJ Chiaradonna (assist), and Aidan Norton (assist). Ben Pimentel made 10 saves between the pipes, while Owen White scooped up four ground balls.

BOYS LACROSSE

Swampscott 10

Essex Tech 9

After being outplayed in the third quarter – one in which Essex Tech ripped three goals – Swampscott finished the job with two timely goals in the fourth.

The Big Blue were led by Jason Rothwell (goal), Chase Russo (goal, assist), Liam Keaney (2 goals, 3 assists), Carson Palmer (goal, assist), John Von Barta (goal), Jack Hazell (2 goals), Max Field (2 goals), and Timmy Sheehan (13 saves).

“We had an outstanding first half,” said Swampscott coach Geoff Beckett. “Essex Tech stormed back in the third quarter and we struggled to possess the ball, but the boys grinded it out with seven different scorers – including two from Max Field with a long pole.”

Salem 16

Lynn 7

Despite Ian Brown of the Jets continuing his stellar spring with three goals and an assist, it wasn’t enough for Lynn in a road matchup against Salem. Other goal-scoring Jets were Julius Serino, Owen McCarthy, Owen Toomey, and Trey Rossetti.

BASEBALL

Lynn Classical 8

Revere 3

Alfred Ventura hit a grand slam in the first inning, and Classical rode the momentum all the way to an 8-3 win against the Patriots.

That wasn’t the only explosion, however. Yoniel Cabral hit a three-run shot in the fifth inning. Christian Figueroa pitched the first four innings, while Rolky Brea closed out the final three for Classical, which improved to 5-3 and is off until Monday.

Bishop Fenwick 17

Northeast Metro 1

Fenwick took care of business against Northeast Metro – and then some – in a 17-1 final. Chris D’Angelo punched out seven batters across four innings, while Josh Scali (2 hits, 3 RBI), Jacob Behn (2 hits), Tyler Santos (3 hits, 3 RBI), Andrew McKenzie (3 hits), Odin Garron (2 hits, 3 RBI), and Cesare Rollo (hit, 4 RBI) led the offensive charge.

Marblehead 16

Danvers 1

Never in doubt – even in enemy territory. Less than 24 hours after its 7-4 win against Bishop Fenwick, Marblehead’s baseball team took things into high gear with a 16-1 thrashing of Danvers.

Chris Cannuscio (4 IP) allowed just four hits and punched out three, while six Magicians connected on hits. He was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks, followed by Brooks Keefe’s two hits and three RBI, Jake Scogland’s three RBI, Charlie Sachs’ three RBI, and Bodie Bartram’s four RBI.

Peabody 7

Winthrop 0

Peabody’s Cam Connolly delivered on the mound, sporting yet another complete-game shutout with 10 punchouts, just two walks, and three hits. Offensively, the Tanners were led by Mike Petro (2-for-4, run, RBI), Noah Crocker (2-for-4, run, RBI), and Jayden Cunningham (2-for-4, run, RBI).

Nashoba Tech 9

KIPP 7

It was a narrow, two-goal defeat for visiting KIPP on Tuesday, but not without positives. As said by coach Jim Rabbitt, Morenel Castro connected on a “bomb” to left field in the first inning, clearing everything and bouncing onto the parking lot.

Georgetown 7

Lynnfield 6

Chalk this one up as a tough-to-swallow game. Lynnfield showed its heart, tying the game, 6-6, in the seventh and final inning, but Georgetown walked it off in the bottom of the frame to win it.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Marblehead 14

Gloucester 5

Marblehead took advantage of a 10-1 halftime lead to reel in the Fishermen of Gloucester. Leading goal-scorers were Ramona Gillett (3), Sydney Shull (2), and Whitney Jellison (2), while Cassidy Lubeck and Kathryn Commoss each dished out two helpers. Molly Bullard went home with five saves for the Magicians, who upped their record to 3-4.I

Swampscott 15

Essex Tech 2

Make it six wins in seven games for the Big Blue, who played true to their name in a 15-2 final against Essex Tech. Avery Laundry, Cecilia Tripp, and Coco Clopton registered hat tricks, while Victoria Pierro distributed five assists and Lilah Caplan made four timely saves.

BOYS TENNIS

Lynn Classical 5

Everett 0

Victor Bun, Axil Ortiz, and Andy Ly took care of business in singles action, and it was all uphill from there as Classical jumped its record to 3-1. The combinations of Ori Beato-Donovan Lam and Kang Vo-Tommy Prou cleaned up the doubles department.

Hamilton-Wenham 3

Marblehead 2

Host Marblehead picked up a singles win from Etan Farfel, as well as a doubles victory from Anthony Vizy and Ty Cooper, but it wasn’t enough on Tuesday.

“Both the doubles teams went three sets and the match rested on their results after our first singles player (Mika Garber) had to retire with an injury,” said Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal.

Perhaps the difference in the match was a “heartbreaker,” according to Foukal, as Jayden Janock and Austin Bacon lost their doubles match 6-7, 6-1, 7-6.

“Jayden and Austin had all the momentum in the third set, up 5-3,” she said. “This was first-rate doubles by all four players.”

Swampscott 5

Gloucester 0

Swampscott (6-1) picked up its second 5-0 win in as many days, putting on a dominant display against Gloucester. Charles and Sam Schepens, as well as Maxum Zeissing won singles action, while the combinations of Trevor Talebian-Nick Custer and Julian Flake-Lucas Bereaud took care of doubles.

GIRLS TENNIS

Swampscott 3

Gloucester 2

Swampscott’s girls tennis team received a singles win from Anna Eccles (6-2, 6-1), then put the match away with two doubles victories. Those came from Victoria Quagrello and Eve Byrne (6-0, 6-0), as well as Ava and Alexis O’Donnell (6-1, 6-0).
