It was a strong chapter in the Lynn tennis book Tuesday afternoon, with both the Lynn Classical and Lynn English boys teams picking up victories.

Classical (5-1) delivered a near-perfect, 4-1 home performance against Winthrop. Victor Bun, Axil Ortiz, and Andy Ly swept singles play, while the duo of Ori Beato and Donovan Lam cashed in on a comeback doubles win. Tommy Prou and Kang Vo played well in second doubles, but dropped their third set.

In English’s 3-2 triumph over Medford, Eric Salazar put on a singles show with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Then came doubles, with Jordan Alas-Dabriel Rojas and Ethan Chilel-Bobby Thipavong winning for the Bulldogs (3-3).

BOYS TENNIS

Latin Academy 0

Marblehead fans have had lots to cheer about this spring, and their Magicians improved to 6-2 (5-0 Northeastern Conference) with a clean win over visiting Latin Academy.

Mika Garber, Etan Farfel, and TJ Kelly got the job done in singles play, while the junior teamup of Jayden Janock and Leo Winocour did so in first singles. Anthony Vizy and Ty Cooper closed things out with a doubles victory.

“Excellent play with Ty’s topspin setting up Anthony at net,” said Marblehead coach Elisabeth Foukal. “Good doubles all around.”

Marblehead swept Saugus in no time, moving to 3-3 on the season ahead of a grueling next four days featuring four matches. Maddie Conlon, Sami Dosch, and Emma Zurn (varsity debut) were perfect in singles, as were Aoife Bresnahan-Lucia Levin and Amelia Singer-Hannah Atkinson (debuts) in doubles.

Cardinal Spellman 2

St. Mary’s captured its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory at Nahant Country Club. Anna Wood (6-2, 3-6, 6-0) and Carolina Toranzo (6-1, 6-3) won singles, while the doubles team of Ava Gigliotti and Maddy Desilets (4-6, 6-2, 7-6) clinched the win in come-from-behind fashion.

On enemy courts, Lynn Classical fell short against the Vikings, 3-2, to drop to 1-4 on the season. Amber Sotomayor impressed in first singles for the Lady Rams, who host Somerville on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

Despite some great individual efforts, Lynn Tech couldn’t protect its home diamond against Mystic Valley.

“Genevieve McCafferty pitched great for us with seven strikeouts,” said Tech coach Beth Mercaldi. “Working well with her behind the plate was Camilla Rufino Santos, keeping the ball in front of her the majority of the time.”

The Tigers were held off the board throughout, except during the fourth inning. At the top of Tech’s order, Zoe Wilson connected on a base hit, then was brought home by a McCafferty single.

“Our only other baserunner got on in the bottom of the fifth inning, but was unable to score,” Mercaldi said.

Despite a 13-6 lead, “This was a tough one,” according to Saugus coach Steve Almquist.

“A walkoff in the bottom of the seventh,” he said. “We had a big lead and they started to catch up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.”

Saugus – which committed six infield errors and dropped to 4-5 on the season – was led by Lily Ventre (2-for-3, 3 RBI), Devany Millerick (2-for-3, 2 RBI), and Ava Rogers (2-for-5, 2 RBI).

David Tracy pitched a complete game for the Pioneers, sporting four punchouts, one earned run, and only four hits allowed. Shortstop Tyler Adamo (2-for-3) led the offense with a 2-run homer, walk, four RBI, and two stolen bases.

“He (Adamo) had a great day. He’s an athlete,” said Lynnfield coach John O’Brien.

O’Brien added that Owen Mullin (stolen base, run) “made a couple terrific catches in left field,” as did right fielder Chase Groothuis (2 hits, RBI) in right.

In an eight-inning classic, Cam Connolly hit a walkoff shot to right field for the Tanners, who escaped the Fishermen in 1-0 fashion. Connolly (3 H, 5 K, BB) also picked up the complete-game victory for his fourth win.

Mike Petro went 2-for-4, while Josh Sigmon and Jayden Cunningham each went 1-for-3 for Peabody.
