PEABODY — The Police Department released a statement announcing the safe return of a 6-year-old girl who was reported missing early Tuesday morning after allegedly being abducted by her estranged father.
Just prior to an Amber Alert being issued because the suspect made statements concerning the child’s safety and after investigators obtained information that the suspect might have been heading to Rhode Island, Rhode Island State Police located the vehicle that the suspect used and conducted a motor vehicle stop, resulting in a foot chase and the suspect’s arrest. The child was located and was unharmed, according to the statement.
Jamaine Johnson, 41, of Boston, was arrested on multiple charges, including assault and battery toward a family member, strangulation, threatening to commit a crime, larceny of a motor vehicle, and kidnapping a child.
“Chief (Thomas) Griffin would like to express his sincerest appreciation to the Peabody Police dispatchers, the Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigation Division, Massachusetts State Police, and Rhode Island State Police for their commitment to ensuring the child’s safe return,” the statement reads.
