Newcastle United could consider Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay as a potential replacement for Sandro Tonali.
Tonali has today received his suspension for betting breaches from the Italian federation. He won’t play competitively until late August in 2024.
In his absence, the Magpies are bound to pursue a quality replacement and The Athletic claim that McTominay is an option for them.
Eddie Howe has been a huge admirer of the Scotsman, and the club previously attempted to sign him on loan in January 2023.
Back then, United were reluctant to do business with the Magpies, considering they viewed them as rivals for a top-four position.
The situation is quite identical heading into the January transfer window and United could have a similar stance on the midfielder.
McTominay has been in brilliant scoring form lately with three goals. Two of those came in stoppage time against Brentford this month.
Despite this, he is not guaranteed a starting spot when everyone is fit and firing and he could be tempted to pursue a new challenge soon.
