After nearly 20 months, Abbot Public Library will start preparations to move out of its temporary location on Brook Road and return to Pleasant Street this weekend.
The library recently released an FAQ on its website regarding its move back to 235 Pleasant St. The library will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, and will be closed for roughly six weeks.
“The library will be closed from Monday, April 29 until around mid-June to allow the staff time to physically relocate materials and furnishings from one building to the other,” the FAQ stated. “All virtual services like databases, Libby, and Hoopla will still be available with your library card.”
Abbot Public Library has spent the last year and a half at the Eveleth School as the building on Pleasant Street underwent major renovations to improve its infrastructure. The timeline of the $9.5 million project remains right on track as it was announced in summer 2022 that the project had a target of being completed by spring 2024.
According to the website, the grand opening will be announced in May.
The library will be unavailable by phone until mid-June during its moving process, though they will still be available through email at [email protected], and will respond as soon as possible Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The library will not be accepting returned items during the closure and asks that items owned by Abbot Public Library be held on to until its reopening. The book drop will also be unavailable during that span.
Most regularly scheduled programs at the library will also resume in mid-June. Other services, like email promo codes for museums, can still be accessed online. The library’s four physical museum passes will be unavailable during its closure.
Once vacated, the Eveleth School will be returned to the School Committee to determine its future use.
