Manchester United have sent scouts to monitor Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino ahead of a summer approach.
The Red Devils are likely to invest on a marquee midfielder this summer and they are looking at different solutions.
Merino is one of the players they are currently tracking and COPE claim that he is widely expected to leave Sociedad.
Sociedad have been unable to convince Merino to extend his stay. He will enter the final year of his deal in July.
He currently has a release clause worth €60 million in his deal, but Sociedad may have to accept a lesser fee.
Aside from Merino, his midfield partner Martin Zubimendi has also been touted to pursue a new challenge soon.
Zubimendi has been a long-term target for Arsenal and they are expected to try again for his services this summer.
The Spaniard has resisted the prospect of leaving his hometown club, but he is likely to move on ahead of next season.
