To the editor:
I would like to take a moment to thank the Lynn DPW and DCR for honoring the late great Leda Barr. I cannot think of a better or more appropriate recognition to memorialize her than the planting of two cherry trees along the Carter Road cove of Flax Pond.
Leda was legendary with her bike rides, walks in Pine Grove or Lynn Woods, her love of her city, and devotion to her neighbors and family. She instilled in multiple generations a love and respect for our environment and the importance of giving back to our community.
Leda was my next-door neighbor for nearly 38 years before her passing and I am sad that due to a prior commitment, I was not able to witness firsthand the planting yesterday.
Leda Barr was humble, but resolute in her love of mother nature and all her majesty. She is so deserving of this honor and I believe she would be happy with it. Leda Barr was special. Carter Road IS special.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Jane Crompton
Lynn
