Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to reunite with Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer.
The Red Devils are likely to part ways with Raphael Varane when his contract expires in June. They have decided against triggering an extension clause in his deal.
Sky Sport Germany claim that United are very interested in a deal for De Ligt. Ten Hag is a firm admirer of the centre-back, having managed him at Ajax.
De Ligt became one of the most sought-after talents under his management and Ten Hag believes he is the perfect fit in central defence for the Red Devils.
It is left to be seen whether a deal will materialise. Bayern have no plans of selling De Ligt this summer. Their plans may change if they sign another marquee centre-back.
Even then, the defender may need to be convinced to join United. It could be difficult to do if the club are unable to qualify for the Champions League next season.
