Chelsea have been handed a big blow in the pursuit of Malo Gusto following the comments from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
The Frenchman has been identified as the Blues’ top target to bolster the right-back spot. They have already agreed terms with him.
However, Les Gones remain adamant that the 19-year-old is not for sale in January and they want to keep him until the summer.
Aulas has now released a statement saying: “I can confirm that Malo Gusto will stay here at least until the end of the season.”
Despite this, the Blues still remain optimistic that Les Gones will give in, considering Gusto’s deal expires in just over 17 months.
They are ready to pay as much as €35m for the youngster. The French club may not receive a similar package at the end of the season.
Chelsea are desperately eyeing a new right-back option, considering the injuries sustained by Reece James‘ due to the heavy work load.
