Athlete of the Week - Ava Nason
press-releases

You know what I’ve been thinking? Of all the nearly-impossible scoring runs in sports history – Reggie Miller’s eight points in nine seconds against the Knicks; Tracy McGrady’s 13 in 33 seconds against San Antonio – we might have another one in store from this week.

St. Mary’s girls lacrosse star Ava Nason scored eight goals in not one, not two, but three consecutive contests, giving her 24 in total against Archbishop Williams (16-12 win), Malden Catholic (11-8 win), and Bishop Fenwick (12-8 loss).

With her fundamentally-sound game and, frankly, terrifying shot, what a stretch it was. The sophomore – yes, sophomore – scored 69 percent of the Spartans’ goals across the three outings.

That said, she wasn’t alone – especially against Williams. Vanessa Hall scored four times in that one, followed by Cassidy Cheney’s hat trick.

Nason’s 28 goals this season have brought her career number to 97. She looks to reach the 100-goal plateau Monday when St. Mary’s travels to Bishop Stang at 3:30 p.m.

Ava, good week, and I have a feeling I’ll be writing about that record soon.
