You know what I’ve been thinking? With these statistics, I’m convinced she’s playing in a video game.
Peabody’s Abby Bettencourt – a Brown University-bound student who spends her offseasons playing basketball and volleyball – put on a softball clinic the last three games.
It started with Saturday, April 13 in a 19-0, mercy-rule win against Masconomet. All she did was throw a perfect game (7 Ks).
Fast forward four days – a 13-3 victory over Danvers – and she punched out 16 batters and allowed just four hits.
Four hits. What a shame…
Then, despite a Friday afternoon, 1-0 loss to Bishop Fenwick, she did everything she could. Bettencourt allowed two hits, struck out nine, and, at one point, sat down 15 of 17 Crusaders.
But that’s just in the circle. Over the three-game stretch at the plate, she went 7-for-9 with eight RBI, four runs, and two homers.
Like I said, video game statistics.
Let’s see what she’s got in store when the Tanners host Archbishop Williams on Monday (4 p.m.).
Abby, good week.
