Arsenal have identified Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as an alternative to Moises Caicedo this month.
The Gunners are hot on the trail of Caicedo and they have already made an opening bid of £60m for the Brighton star.
However, the Seagulls have no plans of selling him at the moment and this could urge the Gunners to look elsewhere.
Zubimendi has been on their radar for a while and The Sun claim that he is a back-up option under their consideration.
Sociedad have no desire of losing the Spaniard this month, but can’t block his exit if the £53m release clause is triggered.
The Gunners are understood to have already held talks with the player’s representative over a potential January deal.
Arsenal are desperate to bolster their midfield before the end of the month.
With a serious knee injury for Mohamed Elneny, they lack quality cover behind Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka this term.
Albert Sambi Lokonga has failed to impress with the limited opportunities and he could be sold in the next transfer window.
